i always wonder when spring might actually spring in western washington...its always a mystery. since i started gardening like a big dog i always play the same game every year: when should i plant. last year i followed all the 'rules' in the books, but it wasn't a great year. good, but i've had better. today thomas and i moved our strawberry plants (that seem to multiply faster than rabbits) into their newly built gigantic box. when we were done, we sat on the deck for a few minutes and i thought - maybe spring has sprung! after thinking on it for a while, i came to my conclusion: it has to be nice for a few days in a row. criteria for nice = i don't have to wear long underwear under my pants and my stocking hat on to be outside, the wind can't be so strong it makes me cry and the rain can't fill the ditch and flood the yard. yep, a few days inside this little box of requirements and i may plant: the start of fresh garden goods.
tomorrow i will figure out how to post pictures and hopefully show the garden progression. in the meantime check out this website, its how i plan my garden every year and one of the best books i've found so far (thanks jon and christina).
